Many of you will be aware that one week ago Daddy arrived home with a dog.
The dog is called Dolly, which turned out to be very confusing because we had a Dolly and a Dotty in the flat.
This report has been prepared to update our fellow felines on recent developments.
Initial Contact
Sally: We first became aware of the dog’s arrival when Daddy entered the flat accompanied by a small furry creature.
Dotty: We thought he had bought a dog.
Sally: He had brought a dog.
Dotty: It was still surprising, and let’s be honest Sally, we weren’t really sure what a dog was.
The creature immediately began exploring the flat and sniffing everything.
We observed from a safe distance.
She appeared confused but harmless.
The Scientific Assessment
Sally: As Head of Research, I conducted a detailed investigation of the dog.
Areas studied included:
- Paws
- Drinking behaviour
- Sleeping habits
- Food consumption
- General dogness
I can confirm the dog drinks water using a remarkably similar method to cats.
This was an unexpected finding.
Dotty: I told you she was mostly furry.
The Food Situation
Anyway Dotty, before you interrupted me, the dog appears to believe that all food should be investigated.
Examples include:
- Her food
- Our food
- Daddy’s food
- Anything Daddy is currently eating
- Anything Daddy might eat in the future
Dotty: To ensure fairness I sampled some of the dog’s food.
Sally: You stole her dinner.
Dotty: I conducted quality control, and don’t tell fibs Sally, it was just a mouth full
The dog has also recently discovered Dreamies.
This development is deeply concerning.
The Mystery Of The Toilet
The dog was fascinated when Daddy cleaned our litter trays.
She watched the entire procedure.
Dotty: She looked genuinely shocked.
Sally: The dog appears to require external toilet facilities.
Dotty: Imagine having to leave the flat every time.
Sally: It sounds exhausting.
The Stairs
The dog refuses to use the communal stairs.
Dotty: To be fair, when I’ve observed them when the front door is open, they are suspicious.
Sally: The dog has therefore arranged for Daddy to carry her up and down.
Dotty: Daddy appears happy to provide this service.
The Human Situation
Initially the dog became concerned whenever our daddy disappeared.
This behaviour has improved significantly.
Recent observations show that when he leaves:
- The dog may bark and complain briefly.
- Then settles.
- And sleeps.
Dotty: Usually in the cave.
Sally: Yes, the cave.
Dolly appears reassured by our presence.
The Cave
The dog has claimed the area beneath Daddy’s desk.
This location is now officially known as The Dolly Cave.
The dog spends considerable time there.
Dotty: It is actually quite a good cave. Though I still prefer the top of the boiler
Social Progress
We are pleased to report that relations have developed considerably.
Dolly now:
- Shares rooms with us.
- Eats near us.
- Sleeps near us.
- Looks for us when returning from walks.
Dotty: She usually looks for me.
Sally: You are impossible.
Dotty: I am popular.
The dog has even become slightly playful and cheeky.
We are still assessing this development.
Final Conclusions
After one week of observation, we have reached the following conclusions:
- The dog is harmless.
- The dog is surprisingly polite.
- The dog is interested in everything.
- The dog remains confused about cats.
- The dog has questionable taste in treats.
- The dog’s hatred of the stairs is irrational., but fair
- The dog is now part of the household, and we’ll miss her when she goes home
Dotty: Also she cleans up dropped cat kibble
Sally: That is not relevant.
Dotty: Huh, sez you
Finally, we would like to reassure Dolly’s Mummy that the dog is safe, well cared for, and settling in nicely, and is welcome back at any time
We look forward to continuing our studies.

Comments
I hope Dolly’s mummy gets to see this in depth and informative ‘cat’ch up. She will find it reassuring that Dolly is happy and in safe hands. 🥰
